Senior Researcher at Human Geography and Planning, Utrecht University
Dr. Monique Simons works as a postdoctoral/senior researcher at the department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning (Utrecht University) and the city of Utrecht. Monique has a background in Human Movement Science and a long-standing interest and research experience on promoting a healthy lifestyle via digital (game)technologies. She conducted her PhD at the VU University in Amsterdam on active video games as a tool to promote physical activity and reduce sedentary behavior. In her current work she includes public spaces as a setting for games and focuses on the influence of environmental aspects on the effectiveness of games for health. She works in close collaboration with policy, industry and the end-users. This quadruple helix approach is a distinctive feature of her research, as she strongly believes that involving all stakeholders during the whole research process (from identifying and articulating research questions to implementing research findings) is crucial for creating societal impact.
